5 DAYS MAGNIFICENT MAHAKAM RIVER TOUR
Dense jungles and steaming swamps. Head hunters and river boats.
Many exotics and often frightening images are traditionally associated
with Kalimantan, the immense Indonesian portion of Borneo. But
Kalimantan today is not the good forsaken outspot it once was.
On this adventure trip we will cruise by river boat through Dayak
territory which still inaccessible to the outside world. Watch
the picturebook jungle where monkeys and birds perch among giant
trees. The primitive beauty of Mahakam River and the Dayak is
a rare travel experience for those who likes the journey beyond
an unexplored world.
Day 01: Balikpapan
- Tenggarong - Murai Muntai
Arrive to Airport of Balikpapan, you will be met and transferred
to Tenggarong, then board the house boat. Cruising up the famous
Mahakam River to Murai Muntai. Meals and overnight on boat.
Day 02: Murai Muntai
- Tanjung Isuy - Melak
After breakfast, sightseeing to the village of Murai Muntai with
its hard wooden road, afterwards proceed to Tanjung Isuy - the
Home Land of the Dayak Benuaq tribe, passing through the fisherman
village of Juntur and beautiful Jempang Lake. Upon arrival at
Tanjung Isuy, you will be greeted by a welcome ceremony and dance
performed by the Dayak Benuaq tribe. Then continue to Mancong
- famous for its Grand Long House and cruise up to Melak. Meals
and overnight on the boat.
Day 03:
Melak - Eheng - Kersik Luway - Kota Bangun
After sightseeing in Melak, a tour will be continued by motorcycle
or truck to Eheng Village - the home land of Dayak Tunjung tribe
where you will see an old Dayak Long House and many Dayak people
who have been living in it as a big family. And then continue
to Kersik Luway to observe the natural forest of Black Orchid.
Afternoon, leave for Kota Bangun. Meals and overnight on the boat.
Day 04: Kota Bangun
- Tenggarong - Balikpapan
Arrival at Kota Bangun in the morning, followed by a Sunrise Safari
Tour along the Kendang river. Afterwards, return to downstream
to Tenggarong, visit the former palace of Sultan Kutai Kertanegara
now the Mulawarman Museum, then drive to Balikpapan. Overnight
at hotel for dinner and overnight
Day 05: Balikpapan
- Departure
Morning free for own activities until the time for transfer to
airport for flight to your next destination.
